Hoerboard Scomber Mix DJ Stand

Hoerboard, the maker of custom DJ furniture, has released a sleek new stand to support the ones and twos in style. The Hoerboard Scomber Mix DJ Stand is designed to fit classic turntables and modern cd/dvd players with a mixer in between. The dj equipment isn’t designed to rest on top of the stand, but to be inset in its top– so the system’s outputs, cabling and other messes are hidden below its surface. In a night club or a home setting, what you see is what you get– a stylish, almost monolithic-looking stand where your musical entertainment is queued and controlled.

Volkswagen Moog

The Moog suggests how the future electric Volkswagen might sound like in the near future. Not only through the sounds it produces, but also what its shapes and textures suggest. As electric vehicles take over as the standard vehicle for the masses there is an opportunity to create sounds different from those we've heard from vehicles in the past. It's a chance to stimulate our cityscapes with something more expressive.

The Moog is a vehicle inspired by electronic music, more specifically minimal techno. It is a blend between Volkswagen's brand philosophies and the characteristics of electronic music. The vehicle also touches on the historic path that electronic music took and to achieve a successful result, a mixture of recognizable and alien elements need to stand out as strong themes for the vehicle.

The unique layer of noise underlying electronic music is represented by a random placement of fractals that run underneath the vehicle. Like bass in a song, some elements are poking out into the exterior. These fractals would also capture the noise and vibration from the road and convert them into energy that can assist with the onboard electronics. The unique sound this electric vehicle makes sound leak out through the wheels.

The concept is a mixture between the recognizable and the alien.

Facebook Facelift

The Facebook Facelift is a self initiated project to challenge the form and functionality of Facebook. It's streamlined, structured, linear interface is more comprehendible, enhancing the user experience and absorbability of content.

The home page features many new benefits: the publisher toolbar enables users to post content from any page within Facebook, saving time in navigating needlessly through profiles; the streams' two-tiered filter (content type & content contributers) also creates a more coherent structure with the core elements retaining their position throughout most of the site; and the live feed displays a constant stream of all content posted in a users network, which expands upon mouse over.

Profiles also integrate with the system more seamlessly. Just as friend lists filter the stream by a select number of people, user profiles simply filter content to a single person, creating a clearer and more comprehendible layout.

Focale 44

Proving that the fixed gear trend is most certainly international, French firm Focale 44 has released press images of their new bikes.  These fixed gear bikes feature the stripped-down amenities that fixie fans adore– basic colors (or lack thereof), simple handlebars and, of course, no brakes.  The Focale 44 fixies come in two iterations, the first being a classic track brike layout with curved handle bars, the second being a street-minded commuter with a straight handle bar and a grenade green paint job.  We much prefer the track version, those white walls and white handles are screaming our name. If you’re reading from France, chances are you’ll be able to get your hands on one of these puppies prior to any U.S. shipments.
