Castles in the Sky Trailer
Weathering salt mists, standing beneath a beating sun and making heroes out of friends is the job of every surf filmer. But after more than two decades at the top of the game, Taylor Steele needed something with a little more creative investment in it. "This is my passion," he told Surfline back in 2009 of his new project Castles in the Sky (premiering tomorrow night, May 4th in New York) with Dustin Humphrey and Todd Heater. "I do those other projects [performance surf films] to keep this going.”
His latest film again delves into surfing’s conceptual side, taking us to Southern India, Iceland, Vietnam and more in a bid to bring the “cultural stew of exploration” to life. But was it the labour of churning out prog-surf bangers that brought about his thirst for creative tenure? Or simply, should everyone endure a change in their career at some point?
